MEERUT: As many as eight months after proposal for LED street lights was signed by the state government for Meerut Municipal Corporation (MMC), the authorities are yet to receive LED lights. As of now, light bulbs of 250 watt are being used in street lights and the ones that get worn out are repaired but not a single bulb has been replaced by LED lights due to their absence.
Detailing, Mohd. Moiuddin, executive engineer, street lights department, said, "There are over 41,000 street lights in Meerut - which cover the ones installed by MMC, Meerut Development Authority (MDA) and other private agencies. As and when a street light gets fused, it is repaired and brought into use again."
As of now, the MMC authorities do not have a single LED bulb if any of the existing bulbs get fused and cannot be repaired.
"While the present bulbs are of 250 watt, the LED bulbs -that are in process of being procured - are of 125 watt. The procurement of LED bulbs is underway and should get completed in this financil year," said
Rajesh Chauhan, inspector, street lights department.
