Youth’s Adiyogi sculpture earns global recognition

Mangaluru: Amith Anchan, the son of a farmer from Mattu village in Udupi district, has garnered praise for his extraordinary talent in sculpting a one-of-a-kind Adiyogi statue using steel nuts.Known for his prowess in crafting pulp models for festival displays, Anchan meticulously welded together 7,600 steel nuts, creating an impressive 58kg sculpture. The 25-year-old Anchan's innovative work has earned him a place in the International Book of Records (IBR), showcasing his exceptional skills on a global stage. Amith earned the record titled – ‘Youngest to make biggest sculpture of Lord Shiva by using metal nuts,' by the IBR.Additionally, the Udupi district administration has recognised his artistic feat by organising a special felicitation ceremony in his honour.Son of Laxman Anchan and Prameela, Amith has successfully completed a diploma in mechanical engineering from the TMA Pai Polytechnic in Manipal. "I have created a unique 3.5x5 ft metal sculpture of Adiyogi by welding 7,600 steel nuts. Every single nut has been welded carefully from the backside of the sculpture," Amith said.Laxman said that his son Amith has spent nearly Rs 60,000 to purchase steel nuts, a welding machine, and other equipment required for the creation of the Lord Shiva sculpture. "He took nearly three months to complete the sculpture. Amith submitted the video footage of making the sculpture to the IBR, along with the application. He received the certificate from the IBR a week ago," he said.In fact, Amith is talented in making huge fibre statues of epic characters, which are in demand during the Ganesha festival, Vitla Pindi festival, Navaratri in Udupi, and other festivals in and around the district. He also creates statues for homes and landscapes at his workshop called Creative Brothers, Laxman said.
