Yakshagana troupe to perform 194 shows in 6 months

Mangaluru: With the Yakshagana season commencing this month, the Shri Jnanashakti Subrahmanyaswami Kripaposhita Yakshagana Mandali of Nagavraja Kshetra Pavanje will stage nearly 194 performances from Nov 13 to May 25. These shows will take place across the state, including Bengaluru and in Kerala, said celebrated Yakshagana Bhagavatha Patla Sathish Shetty, founder-president of the Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust. This year, the troupe will debut a new prasanga, ‘Bharatha Varshini', written by prof Pavan Kiranakere. The troupe was also provided with a new vehicle by the Pavanje Temple Administrative Committee for transporting their equipment. The Bhagavathas will include Yakshadhruva Patla Sathish Shetty, Prafullachandra Nelyadi, Bharat Shetty Siddakatte, and Manvith Ira, with at least 25 artists playing prominent roles. Background music will be supported by Guruprasad Bolinjadka, Prashanth Shetty Vagenadu, and Kaushik Rao Puthige on Chende and Maddale, with music by Poornesh Acharya. This marks the fifth year of the Mela, and its popularity is evident as the mela is performing almost every day without a break.
