Wenlock awaits vaccines

Mangaluru: The Wenlock District Hospital is waiting for the arrival of fresh yellow fever vaccine stock. The hospital has run out of the vaccine, and people are on the waiting list to take it.
At present, those in need of the vaccine can visit the Public Health Institute in Bengaluru.
Wenlock Hospital medical superintendent and DMO Dr Sadashiva Shanbag told TOI that the hospital has stopped administration of yellow fever vaccine, due to a lack of supply.“We were administering the vaccine only on Mondays. On an average, 4-5 people reach our centre to avail the vaccine. Sometimes, the number also crosses 10. We get stock of the vaccine from Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh, where it is manufactured. However, the stock got exhausted three weeks ago. Other than our centre, the vaccine is available only in Bengaluru,” he added.
