Mangaluru: Tensions flared up during the bhumi puja ceremony for the VHP office in Puttur after a scuffle broke out among Hindu workers on Wednesday.
According to sources, a section of the workers objected to the presence of
BJP functionary Arun Kumar Puthila, who rebelled against the BJP during the assembly elections, but later rejoined the party. As soon as Puthila arrived with his supporters, he was confronted, leading to an altercation. The situation was quickly brought under control.
In addition, Congress leaders, including MLA Ashok Rai and Former MLA Shakuntala Shetty, made a brief appearance at the event. Sources said that when Puthila attempted to leave, he was stopped again, leading to another altercation that required police intervention. Senior VHP leaders said that any internal differences should be resolved amicably and not escalate into conflict. In response to the incident, key VHP leaders held a meeting to discuss the situation, said sources.
