VHP demands arrest of Veerappa Moily for insulting PM Modi

MANGALURU: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) zonal working president MB Puranik has urged the state government to initiate legal action against former chief minister and former Union minister M Veerappa Moily for insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Referring to Moily’s statements that allegedly threw doubts on Modi’s 11 days of fasting prior to the consecration of the Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya, Puranik said that the former CM has insulted not only the PM, but also the entire Hindu society.

“At a time when the opening of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is being hailed by Hindus across the world, Moily, who authored ‘Shree Ramayana Mahanveshanam’, has spoken lightly about Narendra Modi’s role. He has not only ridiculed Modi’s 11 days of fasting, but also insulted the PM by saying he is not eligible to consecrate the idol. Though Valmiki, who wrote Ramayana, is from a backward class, his devotion towards Lord Ram made him revered. The idol of Ram Lalla was installed at Ayodhya with the Prime Minister as the yajamaana. However, Moily has ridiculed the Prime Minister,” Puranik said.

There are many temples in India where people from all castes, and not just Brahmins, are allowed to offer puja, he said. “The VHP has no caste bias and considers all who have faith in Hindutva as Hindus. In fact, Moily has insulted Modi on the basis of caste. Hence, he should apologize to the Hindu society. Otherwise, he should be arrested,” Puranik demanded.

To a query, Puranik said that the VHP will discuss with its legal cell and proceed to file a case against Moily.
