Union min visits CG headquarters
Mangaluru: Union minister of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying (MoFAHD) Parshottam Rupala along with senior officers of the department of fisheries, MoFAHD and National Fisheries Development Board visited Coast Guard district headquarters, no.3 as part of phase VII of Sagar Parikrama on Thursday.In view of cyclone Biparjoy in the southeast Arabian Sea, the minister wanted to get first-hand knowledge as to how fishermen earn their livelihood and protect their houses and boats from the fury of cyclones and monsoon. During his visit, the minister with ICG officers lauded the efforts of Coast Guard personnel in their effective coordination and management during cyclones in ensuring nil loss of lives at sea.Event in honour of ChittalMangaluru: Stalwart Kannada writer late Yashwant Chittal will be remembered in a commemorative programme named ‘Chittala Chitta’ to be held at the World Konkani Centre, Shakti Nagar here at 4pm on Saturday. Distinguished Kannada writers - Jayant Kaikini and Vivek Shanbhag, will come together to reminisce about the life and era of Chittal, while offering valuable insights into his remarkable writing. This special occasion will also witness the unveiling of Chittal’s portrait at World Konkani Hall of Fame, adding to his well-deserved recognition and honouring his literary contributions. Clinic for cancer survivorsManipal: To ensure comprehensive care and holistic treatment for cancer survivors, After Completion of Therapy (ACT) Clinic was launched on Thursday, under division of paediatric haematology and oncology, Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, along with NGO Indian Cancer Society, Mumbai. Dr Vasudeva Bhat K, associate professor and head, emphasised that childhood cancer survivors are future citizens of our country, and it is important for them to lead a normal and productive life. Dr Vandana Dhamankar, deputy director general, medical affairs Indian Cancer Society, Mumbai, inaugurated the clinic. Nitte film festival beginsMangaluru: The fourth edition of Nitte International Film Festival (NIFF) hosted by Nitte Institute of Communication opened at Bharath Cinemas, Bharath Mall here on Thursday.Premendra Mazumder, vice-president of the Federation of Film Societies of India and general secretary of the International Federation of Film Critics-India inaugurated the festival. The four-day film festival from June 8 to 11 aimed at showcasing the best of world cinema began with the screening of ‘Hadinelentu’ by Prithvi Konanur. A total of 100 films from different countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, France and Senegal among others in different languages like Tulu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Tamil, German and French will be screened for the festival.‘Regardless of age, practice yoga’Mangaluru: One should practice yoga regardless of age or gender, said former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor. He was speaking at the inaugural of the national seminar on yoga and inauguration of the new yoga therapy centre at University College here on Friday. The seminar is organised by the department of human consciousness and yogic sciences and Dharmanidhi Yogapeetha, Mangalore University and University College Mangaluru, in collaboration with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush. Punaroor stressed that the knowledge of yoga should be spread far and wide so that everyone can tend to their health without depending on medicines.
