Tulu script inscription found during mutt renovation

Mangaluru: An inscription with Tulu script was found in Vittal recently. During the renovation of the Sri Ganapathi Lakshmi Narayana Umamaheshwara Mutt, located in Kasaba village in Vittal, Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, two inscriptions on granite stones were discovered. The preliminary information regarding the inscription was provided by Venkatesh Manjulagiri, a retired professor, and later a study was conducted by GV Kallapura, director of the Sriniketana Museum and Research Centre in Kukke Subrahmanya.According to the researchers, the inscription is carved on two granite stones and is inthe Tulu script and the Kannada. One stone contains 11 lines, while the other has four lines. The inscription, which begins with the auspicious mention of Swastishri, was placed in the year 1879 CE. It is believed that on this occasion, the deity Sri Ganapathi Lakshmi Narayana was installed in the Netrakere Mutt of Bakrabail in Vittal, and Ishwara Bhatta, son of Puttana Bhatta of Kukkila, provided a donation, including cash, for the daily worship of the revered deity.A team including Shruthesh Acharya Moodubelle, deputy director of the Sriniketan Museum and Research Centre, Manjunatha Nandalike, a history and archaeology student of MSRS College-Shirva, and members of the temple management board, including N. Shankaranarayana Bhat, N Thirumaleshwara Bhat, N Ravish, N Mahesh, Ganesh Bhat, Suresh N, Sharmila, U Narayana Bhat, and Manjulagiri Ishwara Bhat, helped in the research.
