Dreaming of rebirth as an artist, says Tulu actor Bolar
Mangaluru: Eminent Tulu actor Aravind Bolar, who was invited as the Mangalore Press Club's guest of honour to share his life journey with mediapersons on Wednesday, expressed his dream to be reborn as an artiste. "Being an artiste bestows upon me everything I could ever wish for and I yearn to be born again as an artiste to continue serving the audience," he declared.Hailing from an economically backward family, Aravind lost his father at a tender age, leaving his mother to toil at odd jobs to sustain the household. Despite the pervasive poverty, he managed to acquire a basic education, which marked the commencement of his acting journey. He recalled that initially, he was hesitant to partake in a cultural event at the school. Aravind's teacher disparaged him as a mentally unstable person, expressing disappointment. Undeterred, he portrayed a mentally unstable person during a fancy-dress competition and won first prize. Subsequently, he ventured into acting in drama companies, with his inaugural performance being that of a child in ‘Brahmana Baravu'. Actor Devdas Kapikad played a pivotal role in nurturing Aravind's career, presenting him with a myriad of opportunities to showcase his versatility through diverse roles.Thereafter, Aravind immersed himself in various drama troupes, Yakshangana and Tulu film industry. "I came to the realisation that a comedian not only elicits laughter from the audience but also possesses the power to raise awareness through the messages conveyed," he said. If granted the opportunity to be born again, Aravind Bolar unequivocally aspires to be an artist once more, reaffirming his unwavering dedication to his craft.Tulu drama boasts an extensive and illustrious history, with its earliest references found in ancient Greek historical accounts. Despite the existence of over 10,000 dramas that have been penned and performed on stage, a mere 350 have been immortalised in print, said Tharanath Gatti, chairman of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.
