Mangaluru: A suspected ISIS sympathiser and a chemical engineer student has been taken into custody by National Investigative Agency (NIA) and Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) with the help of the local police, at Permude, in Bajpe Police Station limits on wee hours of Friday.
They have seized five mobile phones, a laptop from the alleged sympathizer and have taken him to Chennai for questioning.
M Chandra Sekhar, City Police Commissioner said Najmul Huda, 26, resident of Permude was detained around 2 am by NIA and ATS personnel who arrived from Delhi and Chennai.
According to sources, Najmul Huda's family belongs to Bihar and they had settled in Dakshina Kannada from past 25 years. Najmul’s father Saiful Huda is a ‘Moulvi’ in nearby Masjid and mother is a home-maker. Najumul had completed his diploma in engineering at The Karnataka (Government) Polytechnic before joining R V College of Engineering, Bengaluru in the year 2011 for chemical engineering.
Reacting son’s arrest, Najumul’s mother Mahira Khatum Huda told media that her son was innocent and was waiting for engineering examination results. “We don’t know about his activities on social media,'' she added.
A R Krishna Reddy, Registrar of R V College of Engineering speaking to a private news channel told that the Najmul was pursuing his studies from past three years in the institution. He was not active in studies and always kept aloof from other students. “His performance was below par," he added.
