Student's suicide: Shloka fine, to be discharged soon

MANGALORE: Shloka Alva, the student from Sri Ramakrishna College, who attempted suicide by consuming a disinfectant, is likely to be discharged within a day or two from the hospital.

KMC Hospital authorities said that the girl was under observation and she was fine.
Meanwhile, students of the college did not attend classes and the management held a discussion with the student leaders regarding their grievance.
Principal Naveen Shetty said the students were unhappy with the rules regarding discipline, but it was pointed out to them they and had signed an undertaking during admission.

He said that the students have agreed to attend classes from Thursday and the management will also take a lenient view of the damage they caused to college property. ''They have agreed to repair it and we will not press any charges," Shetty said.
Shetty said that student leaders have been told that if they need to go out of the college for work or for practice, permission had to be sought from either the lecturer or the principal. The college also cleared the air on attendance and the penalty for shortage saying that it was university rules that they were following.
