UDUPI: Tension prevailed in Nejar, 8 km from Udupi town, on Wednesday morning after it was discovered that the window panes of a place of worship were damaged. Police suspect that stones were thrown at the place of worship on Tuesday night. Additional police forces have been deployed at the site and the situation is under control.
In another incident the same night, Iqbal, 30, was allegedly assaulted by a group of about seven to eight persons.
He is being treated at a hospital and is out of danger. Iqbal was returning from a family function and was targeted in Nejar. Police have arrested three persons in connection with the assault. The arrested are Sathish, Prashanth and Praveen, residents of Rajiv Nagar, near Santhekatte.
Sources in Malpe police station said that the arrested are being interrogated and may have been behind two earlier incidents of stone throwing and assault. Police are on the look-out for five more persons.
Udupi DYSP Prabhudev Mane said that the situation is under control.
