Squabble over panchayat road among neighbours turns ugly

On Tuesday, Yathiraj, the son of Hemalatha and three others barged into the house of Kanthappa Poojary and assaulted him with sharp-edged weapons. It was the intervention by Chandra Prabha, the daughter of Kanthappa, that forced Yathiraj and the other accused to change their plans and flee the scene along with the weapons they wielded. However, Chandra Prabhu received injuries to her forehead, head and legs.
“Based on a complaint lodged by Chandra Prabha, a case was registered under Sections 143, 147, 148, 324, 447, 207 and 427 read with Section 149 of IPC and section 2 (a) (b) of the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Boot Leggers, Drug Offender, Gamblers, Goondas and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985, the police arrested Yathiraj in this connection, and the jurisdictional court
In a related development, Hemalatha lodged a counter-complaint against Kanthappa, accusing him of illegally trespassing into her house and abusing and molesting her, at the Bantwal Town police station. The police have registered a case under sections 504, 447, 354 of the IPC and also under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act against Kanthappa Poojary. Both these cases will now be investigated by the Bantwal sub-divisional police officer since SC/ST Act too has been invoked.
