Mangaluru/Mysuru: More than two days after a low-intensity blast inside an autorickshaw in Mangaluru, which the Karnataka DGP described as an “act of terror”, police on Monday established the identity of the passenger travelling in the three-wheeler as Mohammed Shariq, 24, from Shivamogga district’s Thirthahalli taluk.
The blast reportedly triggered by a pressure-cooker bomb left Shariq, considered key suspect in the case, and the autorickshaw driver injured. Both are being treated at a Mangaluru hospital for burn injuries.

Sources said Shariq was carrying the cooker bomb that suddenly went off.
Mangaluru, Mysuru and Shivamogga police have, along with central probe agencies, conducted searches at seven places across Karnataka. Police have detained five persons for questioning: Two were picked up from Mysuru, one each from Mangaluru, Bengaluru and Udhagamandalam in Tamil Nadu.
Police joined the dots and confirmed the identity of the passenger after talking to Shariq’s relatives, who arrived in Mangaluru on Monday morning and also based on records stored on his mobile phone.
