MANGALORE: Palagummi Sainath, journalist and Ramon Magsaysay awardee will deliver the maiden B V Kakkilaya Inspired Orations 2013 in Mangalore on September 7. B V Kakkilaya was a freedom fighter, member of the first Rajya Sabha and Karnataka State Assembly. As a tribute to his life and work, and to promote alternative thought and approach to the problems of the suffering masses, the B V Kakkilaya Inspired Orations have been organised.
Sainath as part of the first oration will speak on reporting rural India at the old senate hall of Mangalore University at 11am and in the second oration dwell on corporate hijack of Indian agriculture at Ravindra Kalabhavan, University College at 4pm. Hosatu monthly, Bangalore, M S Krishna Trust, Bangalore and Samadarshi Vedike, Mangalore, in association with Abhinava have jointly organised these orations, Dr B S Kakkilaya, his son stated.
Author K Phaniraj will release the third edition of Kannada translation of Sainath’s Everybody Loves a Good Drought at the venue of the second oration. Journalist G N Mohan who has translated the book will be present.
