MANGALORE: The only place which has not been affected by the economic meltdown is rural India, and hence it is important to give a platform for this developing sector in India, said Devaraj K, principal, SDM College of Business Administration, here on Thursday.
He was speaking after inaugurating `Milan-09, a rural fair organized by the marketing students of Aloysius Institute of Business Administration (AIBA).
Devaraj said this concept of rural fair is perhaps the first of its kind organized by MBA student groups. He appreciated the efforts by the students for conducting the event which has given an opportunity to showcase rural products from rural artisans.
"We need to provide more opportunities for rural people to showcase their products and thus ensure that rural India is true India. By organising such fairs, we could exploit the huge potential of rural markets, he said.
Fr. Denzil Lobo, director, AIBA, spoke about the importance of developing rural India. He said Milan-09 is a gateway to rural artisans to the urban consumers in and around Mangalore. This has given the rural artisans and people an opportunity to exhibit their skills through their products and also market their products.
