Mangaluru: Ralph Roshan Crasta, who has contributed to the field of Konkani music, has been chosen for the 20th edition of the Kalakar Puraskar, jointly awarded by the Carvalho family and Mandd Sobhann.
Roshan, who hails from Bela and currently resides in Kelarai, graduated from St. Aloysius College. He developed a love for the guitar at a young age. He worked as an active member in several music groups and played lead guitar in Music Nites of prominent Konkani artists such as Henry Dsouza, Lorna, Victor Concessao, Melwyn Peris, Mick-Max, Roshan Belman, Lloyd Rego, Prajot Dsa, and others.
He worked as the music sirector for ‘Soad – 5 Mangoa', a singing TV reality show organised by Mandd Sobhann for young singers from Karnataka and Goa. He composed music for several video songs and wrote and composed some songs. The committee selected him considering his hard work, dedication, and interest in mentoring newcomers for the excellence of Konkani music.
The Kalakar Puraskar will include an honour of Rs 50,000, a certificate, and a memento that shall be handed over during the 275th Monthly Theatre programme to be held at Kalangann, Shaktinagar, on Nov 3. John Dsilva Karkal, a banker from Mumbai, will be the chief guest. He will be accompanied by Stanly Fernandes, a businessman based in Muscat, serving as the guest of honour.
The award was established in 2005 in the name of Konkani linguist Dr Pratap Naik's Carvalho family and the Mandd Sobhann organisation to honour artists in Konkani performing arts.
