MANGALORE: Those nursing students, who have applied for re-totaling, can heave a sigh of relief. The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has postponed the dates of supplementary examinations, scheduled to be held on November 3 to November 15.
Dr Sriprakash KS, VC, RGUHS, told TOI that the examination dates were postponed following demand from students as they had not got the results of re-totaling.
Earlier, the students had made a plea to Medical Education minister Ramdas to postpone the supplementary exams commencing from November 3. Students said failed candidates had been asked to pay the fee towards supplementary examinations for the academic year 2011-12, before the re-totaling results were announced. "This is akin to proceeding under a presupposed notion that the outcome of the re-totaling result has no bearing on the supplementary examination," said an aggrieved student from Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing here.
The news that the examinations have been postponed has come as a relief. But they have few more demands which they have placed before RGUHS and the medical education minister. They are: awarding moderation of at least 10 marks for the failed candidates like done for B. Pharm students in 2004-05; disciplinary actions against the evaluators who have allegedly evaluated their papers irresponsibly and increasing the number of attempts from present three to at least five. Under the present system, students who fail even after three attempts will have to discontinue studies.
