MANGALURU: In a bid to provide justice to the LKG student, who was physically abused by her school van driver, several Muslim organizations staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office on Friday.
Under the aegis of United Muslim Organisation Dakshina Kannada District, the protesters demanded that a case be filed against the management of the school, where the three-year-old studied.
The organization submitted a memorandum to chief minister
Siddaramaiah through deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim. Organization's convener K Ashraf said it is a failure on the part of the district administration and the police that no action was taken against the school management even a week after the incident.
"It is unfortunate that none of the people's representatives raised their voice for the child. An FIR should be registered against the school management for their lack of responsibility with regard to the incident. The government should cancel the license issued to the school," Ashraf said.
"We demand that the government wake up and take precautions to prevent such instances in schools. In the meantime, maximum compensation should be offered to the parents of the child," he added. Rafiq Kudroli, a Muslim organisation leader, said the government should act against the institution or will have to face the wrath of the community. "The secular face of the Congress will be snatched away if they continue to ignore the pleas of 14% Muslims in the state. People will have to take law into their hands if the government fails to respond," he added. Another leader A K Kukkila said they were raising their voices whenever women were under attack.
"The Muslim community had joined hands to fight for justice in the Delhi gang rape and several other incidents in Dakshina Kannada. However, it is unfortunate that organizations are hesitant to join the fight for an LKG girl," he added.University professor Pattabhi Rama Somayaji and leaders of 37 Muslim organizations took part in the protest.
