MANGALORE: The Second Judicial Magistrate First Class Court (JMFC) here on Wednesday directed jail authorities to produce Arafath (23), a fisherman from Ullal who is in judicial custody in connection with a case of attempt to murder, before the court on December 1.
The court issued a direction to produce the accused hearing an affidavit filed by Mohammed Basheer, father of Arafath and an application filed by advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulepady on November 29.
City police had arrested and produced Arafath before the magistrate on November 25 as the fourth accused in a case of attempting to murder of autorickshaw driver Raveendra alias Ravi near AAIs signal station at Kandavar village under Bajpe police station limits on November 13.
Basheer had alleged that personnel from Bajpe police station picked Arafath from his house at Kotepura in Ullal between 1.30 am and 2.30 am on November 18. Later, Basheer had filed a search warrant application through advocate before the second JMFC Court. Following this, the court had passed an order asking Mangalore City police to produce Arafath, immediately. On November 23, police in writing maintained that Arafath was neither arrested nor detained by them. Advocate Ulepady said that Arafath would be given opportunity speak about his version regarding arrest on December 1.
