: Muslims in Dakshina Kannad a and
Udupi
celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with pomp and fervour on Friday.
They offered namaz and received the message of Eid from the religious leaders at prominent mosques in the two districts post which they wished each other a happy life ahead.
The Qazis, in their sermon, wished that the Ramzan provided the community an inspiration to lead a life of peace and tranquillity after having living a pious life for a month.
Noting that the Muslim community faced several social challenges in the past and is likely to face such hurdles in the future, the Qazis encouraged people to face such incidents positively. They urged members of the community to never break religious orders and laws of the country. "We should always win over our critics with love, honesty and patience," a Qazi said.
Minister for urban development and housing UT Khader gave a call to the people to contribute towards the development of the society. He urged people to celebrate all religious festivals in the district with a sense of unity and brotherhood.
A special pandal was set up at the Idgah Masjid, Bavutagudde, to offer the namaz.
St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, located nearby, provided parking space for the vehicles arriving at the mosque. City police had made special arrangements to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.
MLC Ivan D'Souza, former MLA J R Lobo and Mangaluru City police commissioner Vipul Kumar were present among others.
At the Zeenath Baksh Jummah Masjid, president Y Abdullah Kunhi delivered the message of Eid. At Jamiah Masjid, Kudroli, religious leader Mufti Mannan Saheb led the namaz prayer while community head Muhammed Tayyib Ustad held the rituals at Masmidul Ehhsan at Vas Lane. Prayers were also held at Masmid Noor mosque at Hampankatte, Taqwa Masjid at Pumpwell, Ibrahim Khaleel mosque on Nellikai Road and
Kutchi Memon
mosque at Bunder among others.
