Mangaluru: The

postal

department has extended delivery of birth and death certificates from

Wenlock District Hospital

to the doorstep of citizens, through Speed Post. Shriharsha N, senior superintendent of post offices,

Mangaluru

division, said that the department of posts, Mangaluru division, entered into an agreement with Wenlock District Hospital on Friday.
He said that at present, patients from nine districts of Karnataka and three districts of Kerala, are availing the service at this hospital. In the present system, applicants have to visit the Wenlock District Hospital twice, the first time for applying for a birth or death certificate, and the second time, at the time of collecting the certificate. Hence in this system, the public from far-off places has to spend at least a day, just to collect the certificates, but with the launch of this new service, applicants are now able to obtain the birth or death certificate at their doorstep.
For the first time in Karnataka, this service was launched at Mangaluru City Corporation on March 21, and then extended at Lady Goschen Hospital on April 6. It has also been extended to Kotekar, Bajpe,

Kinnigoli

and Mulki town panchayats and Ullal and Someshwar town municipal councils on April 11. With the extension of this service at

Wenlock Hospital

, all urban local bodies and major government hospitals issuing birth or death certificates falling under Mangaluru postal division, have been covered under this service, he said.
