MN Anucheth, assistant superintendent of police, Puttur, who chaired the meeting also urged dalit leaders to counsel their community not to get involved in such situations against their own community. Police will take action against Sunil and his accomplices, if they are guilty of having issued threats, Anucheth said and directed the police inspector concerned to take note of Vishwanath's complaint and proceed against Sunil accordingly.
P Keshava, dalit leader, while concurring with Anucheth's view and urging him to take up the matter seriously said the leaders too will ask their community members not to get involved in cases against their own. "It is unbecoming of us as leaders if we are not able to counsel our people," he said.
"If police act against people who instigate dalits to act against their own community members, it will send out a clear message to all concerned," he said.
