district police have nabbed an accused who was on the run for the past 22-years. The accused Shankar Gowda, 63, was wanted in a case registered against him in Belthangady police station limits and had evaded the law for this long. A team of police officials led by PSI, Belthangady PS based on a tip off about the presence of the accused nabbed him from his house at Kadirudyavara village in Belthangady taluk, late on Friday.

Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, superintendent of police said the accused had thrown acid on the face and right hand of Ganesh Prabhu on the night of September 27, 1995 over a trivial issue. Shankar had arrived at a STD shop that Ganesh operated at Ujire with his wife Sandhya and children and enquired if he was knocking on their doors at odd-hours. When he denied the same, Sandhya asked him to come to their house so that they could talk and sort out the issue.

When Ganesh went to their house and knocked on the door, there was no response. The victim later went near a window of the house and called out the inmates. At this time, Shankar Gowda opened the window and threw acid on Ganesh causing him burn injuries. The accused had gone missing since the incident and police were on the lookout for him, SP said lauding the perseverance shown by the personnel in pursuing the case and nabbing the accused.
