MANIPAL: The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) on Friday opened its office at Manipal.
The occasion was celebration of Polish Science Day at Manipal Academy of Higher Education with a specially curated event organized by the office of international affairs and collaborations and department of languages.
Polish Science Day commemorates the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus, famous Polish mathematician and astronomer.
Justyna Guziak, Polish language instructor at MAHE will head the NAWA office here. Adam Burakowski, Ambassador, Republic of Poland to India, chief guest welcomed the initiative as a step in the right direction for enhancing closer ties that Poland and India share. Dr Grażyna Żebrowska, Director-General, NAWA outlining the vision for Polish language and culture studies in India said such an information office was the first-of-its-kind in the world.
NAWA is expected to build the intellectual capacity of Poland through science diplomacy and international scientific cooperation. Rafał Witkowski, the Vice-Rector, Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU), Poznan and Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of MAHE signed memorandum of understanding that initiates academic cooperation between AMU and MAHE on this occasion, a MAHE communique here on Tuesday states.
Raghu C Rajappa, honorary consul of the Republic of Poland, Bengaluru, guest of honour reiterated his role in promoting a closer relationship between Poland and Karnataka in education, tourism, technology, industry development, investment and other fields. NAWA is a governmental agency in Poland established to carry out tasks related to the academic mobility between Poland and other countries, Rajappa said.
