MANGALURU: Eminent Konkani poet

Melvyn Rodrigues

from Mangaluru has been selected to preside over the 24th all India Konkani literary conference that will be held in Canacona, Goa from February 1.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the

All India Konkani Parishad

recently in Goa. Melvyn is winner of

Sahitya Akademi

award and the prestigious Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Kavita Kruti award.

Born in 1962, Melvyn through his Kavita Trust has inspired many budding poets in Konkani. After his graduation in management, he did his PG in sociology. He has translated Yashwanta Chittala’s

Kannada

short stories Katheyadalu Hudugi and K S Narasimhaswamy's collection of poems Tereda Bagilu into Konkani. He has also published six own poetry collections, two books of essays, one novella and edited six anthologies of Konkani poems.

He has been editing and maintaining a website ‘kavitaa.com’ dedicated only to Konkani poetry since 2004. He has lived outside India for 14 years and currently is the director, operations, Daijiworld Media.
