Palimaru seer selects his successor
Udupi: The head of Palimaru Mutt, Sri Vidhyadeesha Theertha Swamiji has selected a student of Yogadeepika Gurukula of Palimaru Mutt as his successor. The successor, Shailesh Upadhyay, will be offered sanyasa deeksha in a ceremony to be held from May 9 to 12 at Krishna Mutt.
As per the guidelines from local and Kerala astrologers on Tuesday night, it was decided to appoint the successor with everyone’s consent.

Palimaru Mutt follows the tradition of worshiping Lord Krishna and Lord Rama. The junior is expected to lead the mutt’s tradition like the senior pontiff. The junior is a third year Yogadeepika Gurukula (study of Vedas ) student. The acceptance of Sanyasa Deekshe/Peetharohana rituals will be held at Brahma Muhurtham from May 9 with various homas, pujas and other rituals till May 12.
Shailesh Upadhyay (20), son of Surendra Upadhyay and Lakshmi, belongs to Kodavuru, Kumbalakatta, Udupi. He attended primary education at SMSP Sanskrit School. After SSLC, he joined Yogadipika Gurukula at Palimaru Mutt. Shailesh has a brother who is studying for medicine.
“Once I finished SSLC, my passion for spirituality increased. The desire to embrace Lord Krishna and worship him forced me to become a saint. When I got the information that Palimaru seer is looking for a disciple, I requested to consider myself for the same. The seer agreed and checked the horoscope and it matched. There was no objection from my home too as they know my determination. I have taken the decision understanding my responsibilities,” said Upadhyay.
The current seer, Vidhyadeesha Theertha Swamiji, was born in 1956 at Shibur. He is currently 63 years and this is his second Paryaya. He was successor to Vidyakanda Teertha Swamiji in 1974. He implemented many popular and major projects in the Krishna Mutt.
