While a 20 year-old woman was admitted in a private hospital, another 75 year-old patient was undergoing treatment at

Wenlock Hospital

. Test reports from MCVR showed that both patients are not infected with Nipah Virus.

Disclosing this, Dakshina Kannada DC Sasikanth Senthil said there is absolutely no threat of Nipah Virus infection in Mangaluru and this part of the coastal region. He said the

throat swab

of a woman, who was a staff in Government Medical College, Kozhikode, was sent for RT-PCR test at MCVR on Tuesday. The sample of the patient was sent for the test out of curiosity since she was working in Kozhikode. However, the report from MCVR confirmed that she has not contracted the Nipah Virus, he said adding that the patient is recovering from the illness.

Another person, in fact, was not at all a Nipah Virus suspect and he has been recovering too, the DC said adding that the report from MCVR is final and there is no need to repeat tests in both cases.

He requested people not to believe in unauthenticated forwards on social media with regard to Nipah Virus.

“There is no fear of Nipah Virus in Dakshina Kannada distrct. We are in touch with doctors of all government and private hospitals in the district. Not a single case has been reported from the district. Don’t believe and forward messages on social media on Nipah Virus unless it is confirmed by the district administration,” Senthil said.
