Nitte lauds nurse Nimmy who saved stabbed woman

stabbed

12 times in broad daylight in full public view on Friday last week.

Even as the victim, who was being stabbed by a youth, was crying for help, no one present nearby dared to help, as the knife wielding accused was threatening them. However,

Nimmy Stephen

, a staff nurse at the casualty department at JKSH Charitable Hospital, Derlakatte, saved the victim, after she was dispatched to the crime spot on an

ambulance

by the hospital. Some of the locals had brought the incident to the notice of the hospital, and she along with the ambulance, rushed to the spot.

As soon as she alighted from the ambulance, she rushed towards the victim, paying no heed for her safety. Though onlookers tried to stop her, she didn’t step back. The accused was sitting on the victim and threatening her, but she managed to drag the victim away from him. Later, after primary treatment was administered to the victim, she was rushed to hospital. Nimmy’s brave act has been recorded on video by onlookers.

In an appreciation letter from Alka Kulkarni, registrar, Nitte (deemed to be university), the varsity has appreciated the courage and commitment demonstrated by her, beyond the call of duty. Nimmy hails from Kannur district in Kerala.

According to sources, the victim’s condition is stable and she is being kept under observation. She is responding to treatment.
