MANGALORE: Mangalore North MLA Mohiudeen Bava has plans to set up a Kabeer Relief Fund linked to Kabeer's mother's bank account to help the sister of the deceased, aged 28, get married or help them construct a house.
Bava, lauding chief minister Siddaramaiah for announcing a judicial and CID probe within six hours after the incident and also announcing compensation of Rs 10 lakh, said he will help Kabeer's family get a site to construct the house and has appealed to Union Ministers M Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes to get a job to Kabeer's brother either in ONGC or MRPL.

Bava said those interested in helping Kabeer's family rebuild lives can contribute to the fund, the account which will be linked to Khateejumma's bank account.
Asserting that he wanted the compensation amount to be enhanced to Rs 25 lakh, Bava said laws should be amended to mete out stricter punishment to cattle thieves and also for making Muslims eat the meat of the stolen cattle which according to him is 'haram'.
Regarding the incident in which Mohammed Kabeer, 23, resident of Krishnapura was killed when ANF personnel opened fire on him at Thanikodu check post in Sringeri on April 19, he questioned the rationale in shooting Kabeer. If he was taking cattle illegally there are provisions in the law to punish the guilty. I have talked to people with him, they have categorically stated that the cattle was purchased,'' said Bava adding that the constable Naveen G Naik should be arrested immediately.
