Mangaluru: Man gets 7 years rigorous imprisonment for rape

On Jan 11, 2018, the victim stayed back at home due to leg pain. Dasaiah, who learnt that the victim was alone, rushed back to the shed and raped her. He also promised to marry her. He even threatened her not to reveal anything to her family. He had also hidden the fact from the victim that he was married and a father of two children.
When the victim’s parents noticed physical changes in her, including her baby bump, they questioned her and took her to a hospital. The hospital confirmed that she was six months pregnant. A case was registered on June 19, 2018 and Dasaiah was subsequently arrested. A chargesheet was filed by inspector
After examining seven witnesses, the court held the accused guilty and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for IPC Section 376 (rape), one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for IPC Section 417(Cheating), one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for IPC Section 506 (criminal intimidation). Out of the total fine of Rs 45,000, the court has directed that Rs 25,000 be paid to the victim as compensation. In addition, Rs 50,000 will have to be deposited by the accused as a fixed deposit in the child’s name.
