Students alleged Shloka was targeted by principal Naveen Shetty as he thought she had instigated about 80 students to bunk classes for an hour on August 29 to practise for an inter-class talent competition. Each student had to pay a fine of Rs 100.
Students said they would boycott classes on Wednesday till the college rules, especially fining students for trivial reasons, were changed. The principal said the college had a good reputation because discipline was enforced. In this case, the victim and another student were told to bring their parents for bunking classes. "The main reason was to enforce discipline as Shloka was the class representative. We allow students to practise for competitions. But bunking class is a strict no-no,'' he said.
