MANGALURU: A 46-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband, who later allegedly died by suicide, at Pilar in Ullal police station limits on Thursday. The deceased are
Shivananda,55, who stayed near Panjandaya Temple at Pilar in Someshwar village, and his wife Shobha,46.
Shivananda ended his life by hanging himself, after murdering his wife, a homemaker, between 12pm and 1pm.
The couple has two children, a son and a daughter. Police said that Shivananda, who was working as a painter, used to have altercations with his wife often, over trivial issues.
He was suspicious of her fidelity. According to their son, the couple had an argument on Thursday morning. When the incident took place, the couple’s son and daughter were not in the house. City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that Shivananda had called family members, and asked them to come with wreaths.
“It is a clear case of murder followed by suicide. Forensic experts say that there are possibilities that he may have smothered or strangled his wife, either using a pillow, or by strangling her neck with his hands. After committing the murder, he hanged himself to a tree branch behind their house. The woman’s body was found in the bedroom of their house. For the past several years, Shivananda would beat his wife, as he was suspicious of her fidelity,” he said.
The commissioner added that Shivananda had left a death note, where he mentioned that he suspected his wife’s fidelity, and added that an investigation is on into the case.
