Kuthloor school sets example with life education, students to present homegrown veggies to Karnataka CM

MANGALURU: In Kuthloor, a school that offers life education alongside the curriculum, focusing on living with the environment, is a model for the state, said K V Prabhakar, Media Advisor to the chief minister of Karnataka.
Speaking at an event organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists' Association and Belthangady Taluk Journalists' Association at the upgraded higher primary school in Kuthloor, he stressed the importance of children returning to govt schools.
He noted that the school in Kuthloor operates like a university. The school's garden provides life experiences, and instead of focusing on what we receive from society, we should focus on what we can contribute, he said.
Having studied in a govt school himself, he expressed pride in the state's govt schools and promised to provide all possible support for the development of Kuthloor School, as requested by the school authorities.
Ramachandra Bhat, President, SDMC, said that the number of students has increased from 38 to 83. The journalists' village stay inspired the planting of 400 arecanut trees and 50 coconut saplings alongside the school garden.
Two vehicles were arranged for the students, similar to private schools. However, more support from the govt or organisations would further encourage rural education, he added.
Vegetable offerings:
Students presented 10 kg of cucumbers and 3 kg of lady’s finger grown in the school's organic garden to Prabhakar. Next week, students will visit the official residence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru to present vegetables grown in the school's organic garden, said Ramachandra Bhat.
