Konkani Sahitya Academy announces honourary, book awards for 2014

Octogenarians - writer Padma Shenoy of Mangaluru, and folk artist - Gajanana Mahale of Dharwad, and 65-year-old Koni Sheshagiri Nayak has been chosen for the annual honourary awards that Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy presents each year.

MANGALURU: Octogenarians - writer PadmaShenoy of Mangaluru, and folk artist - GajananaMahale of Dharwad, and 65-year-old KoniSheshagiriNayak has been chosen for the annual honourary awards that KarnatakaKonkaniSahitya Academy presents each year. The trio will receive the award for their contribution to the field of literature, folk art and art respectively at a function to be held at RavindraKalakshetra, Bengaluru on January 18.

Roy Castelino, president of the academy told reporters here on Monday that Padma Shenoy, a prolific writer in Kannada has made significant contribution to enhance Konkani literature as well. Gajanana Mahale, an eminent make-up artist has left an indelible mark on the field of drama, film and stage with his expertise, Roy said, adding Sheshagiri Nayak too has enriched Konkani art form by penning and directing Konkani dramas such as Satyavan Savitri, and Pithlikan.
Referring to Konkani book awards for 2014, Roy said Nagesh Kumar G Rao of Manipal has been chosen for Konkani poetry award for his poem collection - Magani Krishna Tukka. Gandhichem Parjalik Fudarpanpenned by J V Carlo of Hassan has won him Konkani article award. Naveen Karmbil, Kinnigoli will receive Konkani short story award for DevachyaBhagevanthano. While the honourary awards has cash of Rs 10000, recipients of book awards will get Rs 5,000.
In order to encourage youth to foster the cause of the language, Roy said the academy will honour Ashwin M Prabhu of Mysuru for his contribution to music, Prajwal M Nayak of Bengaluru for his achievements in yoga, and Arun Nayak of Dharwad for his contribution to the media field. Books Khandi Khurisby Vally Vagga, translated version of Santhakavi Kanakadas by Geetha Shenoy n Tasveenth by Wilson Kateel and Wilson Kayyara will also be released on this occasion.
