Konkani institute to launch Bolkamv literary series
Mangaluru: The Institute of Konkani at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), which has been a steadfast advocate for the Konkani language and its literary heritage since its establishment, while celebrating its 44th anniversary, has announced the introduction of a distinctive literary programme series called Bolkamv (Balcony), which will be hosted at the institute's facilities. The Bolkamv series is designed to foster literature by offering a cosy stage equipped with sound, lighting, and seating for a close-knit gathering of 40 to 50 literature enthusiasts, comprising students, faculty members and writers. Each one-hour session will showcase a seasoned or emerging storyteller, poet, novelist, or dramatist who will read selections from their work and engage in a discussion with the audience. The inaugural event is scheduled for Sept 7 and will be officially launched by Fr Praveen Martis, chancellor of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University). The event will spotlight Melwyn Pinto Neerude, a prominent contemporary Konkani storyteller, who will read passages from his short stories and moderate a discussion on the craft of short story writing. A dialogue with scholars will follow this presentation. The Bolkamv Literature Series serves as an inclusive platform for individuals who have made contributions to various literary genres, such as poetry, short stories, novels, translation, and drama, to showcase their work and exchange insights with the literary community.
