KARKALA: Yet again,

selfie craze

has proved to be dangerous. A youth was feared drowned after he, along with three others, had been to waterfalls under Karkala Rural police station limits in the

Udupi district of Karnataka

on Independence Day.

Four youth -- identified as Sundesh, 26, along with Bharat Poojary, 31, Santhosh, 24, residents of Nandalike village, and Rakesh, 24, resident of Bola village, -- had been to Arbi Falls in Nitte village on Thursday.

Arbi Falls attracts tourists during monsoon. At around 2.30pm, four of them decided to take selfies near the waterfalls when Sudesh and Bharat accidentally slipped and fell into the water.

Bharat was lucky and managed to swim back safely, but Sudhesh is feared drowned. Taluk officers, including Tahsildar and executive officer, have rushed to the spot. Fire and Emergency services personnel were pressed into action.

About 150 people are assisting in the search operation. It was only recently that a youth who was trying to click a selfie from atop a roadside falls on Charmadi Ghat fell from a height of nearly 150 feet after he lost his balance.
