Karnataka: 'Shuddh Ganga' water supply continues unabated even during lockdown

MANGALURU: Even when the state is in lock down, the Shuddh Ganga drinking water distribution scheme of the

Sri Kshetra Dharmastala

continues unabated giving respite to poor families.


The scheme, which is being implemented through the Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), continues to supply purified drinking water to 71,000 families in 18 districts of the state. The SKDRDP has made special arrangements to make all purification plants in the state functional uninterrupted during lock down.

said 275 Shuddh Ganga drinking water plants in 18 districts are catering 20 litres of potable drinking water to each of the family every day.

"We have been distributing an average of 14 lakh litres of potable drinking water every day. We have set up additional automatic purifier units and 325 workers are engaged in the water distribution in villages with the permission of respective panchayats. Though most of all business are shut due to lock down, we have not discontinued the service under Shuddh Ganga scheme," Manjunath said.

In order to prevent the possible spread of Covid-19 during the distribution of water, social distancing has been made compulsory in the premises of all units.
