Rao and Udupi district minister Laxmi Hebbalkar discussed the proposal with representatives of the European Business and Technology in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Rao said that the proposed high-speed corridor will contribute to the overall development of Mangaluru and other cities on the stretch.

“The proposal involves development of a six - eight lane high-speed corridor to connect Mangaluru and Bengaluru and it will help in bringing more investments in the coastal city. Further, the commerce and industry sector in the Mangaluru region will also see prosperity as the corridor would serve as a major connectivity from Bengaluru to the New Mangalore Port,” he said.

Since the proposal needs to be discussed in detail, especially on the corridor route, a discussion will be held with the public works minister Satish Jarkiholi and chief minister Siddaramaiah soon. The government will promote projects that would ensure a sustainable development of Mangaluru, Rao said, adding that implementation of such development projects will also need private partnership.
