have arrested two persons on charges of attempting to create communal tension, even as students were protesting over the hijab row on Friday.

When police sub-inspector Sadashiva R Gavaroji was monitoring the law and order situation near the

Kundapur Junior College

in

Kasaba village

, he noticed an unlawful assembly of about six people, who were armed with weapons.

At 3.30pm, when students were protesting and seeking permission to wear hijab inside the classroom, the police noticed the presence of the gang, who were supporting the students from a community. They were flashing knives in a threatening manner. When the police confronted them, they fled from the scene.

The police arrested two people in this connection. Following their arrest, they were produced before the court on Saturday. The arrested accused are Haji Abdul Majeed, 32, and Rajab, 41, from Gangolli. The police are on the lookout for Khalil, Rizwan and Ifthikar. Majeed has seven pending cases against him in the

Gangolli

police station, and is a rowdy-sheeter, while, Rajab has a case pending against him. They are known to create communal tension in the area. The police have registered a case under various IPC sections against them.
