MANGALORE: BJP national general secretary Ananth Kumar on Monday hit out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi for taking pot-shots at BJP being dependent on Sangh Parivar for guidance, saying that she did not have the moral right to talk about BJP as the Congress-led UPA was at the `height of dependence' during its five year term at the Centre.
Speaking at the end of the roadshow at the Old Bus Stand here, Kumar said the Congress with a strength of just 145 was dependent on the Left and later on Samajwadi Party for survival.He said only BJP would be able to establish Mahatma Gandhis `Ram Rajya' and Congress was capable of only `Rome Rajya'.
Indicating that there were only two issues before the electorate these polls __ price rise and terrorism __ Kumar said people in DK Parliamentary constituency had always risen above caste calculations when national pride was at stake.
Kumar said the voter turnout might have been low in Bangalore, but all five constituencies in Bangalore would be won by the BJP.
Kumar, who came two hours late due to a technical snag in his helicopter, arrived at Car Street on a two-wheeler as the car in which he was travelling from the helipad at Maryhill also developed a problem.
The roadshow, first by the BJP in the city, created a colourful election atmosphere reminiscent of yesteryear.
EC to probe IAS officer
Ananth Kumar said the Election Commission would probe the Chikmagalur incident wherein deputy secretary to the government, B G Nandakumar, allegedly addressed a BJP meeting.
He told TOI that he would not offer any comment except that the EC was checking the veracity of the alleged incident.
He said that the party would get 20 plus seats in the parliamentary polls in the state.
