Injured Haryana cyclist gets help in Mangaluru

A 64-year-old woman cyclist from Rohtak in Haryana met with an accident in Mangaluru on December 20, and a family in Mangaluru and a cyclist from Uttar Pradesh, Vikas Jai Janiya, rushed to her aid. Kamlesh Rana was hit by a bus near Surathkal when she was riding toward Mangaluru on December 20, and was rushed to the Wenlock District Hospital and even underwent surgery for her hand injuries.

MANGALURU: Sometimes, when we are in a bind, help can arrive from unexpected corners. This is evident from the fact that when a 64-year-old woman cyclist from Rohtak in Haryana met with an accident, a family in Mangaluru and a co-cyclist from Uttar Pradesh rushed to her aid.

She was rushed to the Wenlock district Hospital and even underwent surgery for her hand injuries.
However, it is interesting to note that another cyclist, Vikas Jai Janiya, 30, from Uttar Pradesh and a computer teacher at Manzil Welfare, an NGO in Delhi, whom she had met in Kashmir, rushed to help her. He was in Bhatkal when the accident took place.
According to S Nandagopal and his wife Sachitha, co-founders of theCentre for Integrated Learning, they received a call from filmmaker Abhaya Simha, requesting if they could help the cyclist, on December 24, the day she was to be discharged. An NGO in Mumbai contacted Simha after Vikas shared details about the accident and the need for help in Mangaluru on social media. Soon, Kamlesh and Vikas became part of Nandagopal’s family.
“It has been fun trying out north Indian recipes along with Kamlesh and Vikas. We will be reaching out to schools and women’s groups so that cyclists can share their experiences. Once she recovers, Kamlesh will continue on her journey. She is desperately waiting for the plaster to be removed so that she can get back to cycling, “ said Sachitha.
