Indo-Canadian artist to showcase paintings in Mangalore

Indo-Canadian artist Kokila (Nee Suthan Karkera), who got appreciation for her works in Canada, Italy and Middle East, is all set to hold a solo painting expo, 'Kokila - Rediscovering India' at Prasad Art Gallery in the city from January 24 to 27.

MANGALORE: Indo-Canadian artist Kokila (Nee Suthan Karkera), who got appreciation for her works in Canada, Italy and Middle East, is all set to hold a solo painting expo, 'Kokila - Rediscovering India' at Prasad Art Gallery in the city from January 24 to 27.
Her summer solo shows - 'Kokila: An evening of colour and culture' held in Toronto in August 2013 and 'Kokila: Art and aperitivo' in Rome in October, 2012 have received excellent reviews and response in the form of sale of paintings, said veteran artist Ganesh Somayaji.

"Kokila is an Indo-Canadian artist born and brought up in Mangalore with mother Vimala Suvarna, an avid painter. One of her early art mentors is artist BG Mohammed of BGM Art School. In recent years, she took art classes at George Brown College, Toronto under well known Canadian artist Stefan Galvanek. Member of Scarborough Arts Council, Kokila has multicultural influences of places lived and travelled. The journalist-turned-artist Kokila is versatile and enjoys working with oils, watercolours, acrylic, charcoal, pencils, crayons using brushes, knives, pieces of wood and paper," Somayaji said adding that her paintings, sketches, murals hang in homes and institutions in Italy, North America, India and Middle East.
Dr MV Shetty Memorial Trust trustee Hima Urmila Shetty will be the guest at the inaugural of the art expo on January 24 at 5pm. Paintings will be open for public view between 9.30am and 7.30pm from January 25 to 27, he said.
