‘India will be self-reliant in urea production’
Mangaluru: India will be self-reliant in urea production from next year, said Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers and new & renewable energy, Bhagwanth Khuba. He told reporters here on Friday, that the nation currently operates five urea production units. Sixth unit to open next year, says Union minister“The sixth urea production unit will be opened next year, and thereby the production will touch 12.7 lakh metric tonnes per year. This will enable the nation to be self-reliant in urea production,” he said. The minister said that the government wants to increase the use of nano urea in the nation. “Research on nano urea and nano DAP has already been carried out in the nation, and field trials have also been completed. Farmers in the nation have also been using nano urea widely. The government has an aim to reduce the use of granular urea, by replacing it with nano urea, which is inexpensive, and helps in producing a high yield,” he added.
