Hindu activists subjected to human rights violation: Forum
Mangaluru: A delegation of the United Forum of All Hindu Organisations met the deputy commissioner and the IGP of Western Range, seeking action against police in Dakshina Kannada for allegedly summoning Hindu activists, conducting searches, and taking photos at their houses at midnight.Sri Vidyasaraswati Swamiji, president of Bharat Sant Samiti (Karnataka region), said that recent incidents in Dakshina Kannada created an alarming atmosphere of fear among citizens, undermining their right to privacy and personal dignity. "Over the past week, under the pretext of maintaining communal harmony, police targeted Hindu activists, engaging in actions that amounted to serious violations of human rights. As per reports, local police stations called Hindu activists for questioning late at night, without serving official notices. Officials visited their homes at odd hours, photographed them without consent, and collected GPS data of their residences. Even elderly daily-wage workers with no history of activism faced late-night calls and intimidation," he said."Posts made by Hindus on social media are allegedly being met with FIRs, arrests, and suppression of their freedom of expression. Such actions violate Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution, and constitute serious offences under BNS sections 105, 107, 182, 352, and 128. The govt must initiate a high-level investigation into these human rights violations by senior police officers in Dakshina Kannada," the forum urged."Elderly citizens who were harassed must be given appropriate compensation, and written apologies must be obtained from those responsible. An immediate investigation should be conducted into death threats to Hindu functionaries, and necessary legal protection must be provided to them," the forum stated in a memorandum."Legal action must be taken against those responsible for the violence, media attacks, and stone-pelting incidents during Abdul Rehman's funeral procession. There is strong suspicion that members of the banned PFI continue to operate under different banners, and were involved in the murder of Suhas Shetty. A stricter ban on PFI must be enforced, and harsh legal measures taken against its active members," they demanded.
