: Disha, a class III student of
Vivekananda School
(
Puttur
), has donated her
piggy bank
savings to a hospital, so that the amount can be used for the treatment of poor patients.
Disha had saved nearly Rs 10,000 — her pocket money collected over the past few years — in her piggy bank. Moved by the plight of poor patients, who are struggling to get treatment during the pandemic, Disha donated her savings to them. She handed over the amount to surgeon Dr M K Prasad of Adarsha Hospital,Puttur.
Dr Prasad told STOI Disha is the daughter of Anila B, assistant manager (sales and marketing) of Janaushadhi Kendra, and Deepak Shetty from Puttur.
“She wanted to celebrate her birthday at the hospital and donate the money she had collected in her piggy bank, to treat the poor. Incidentally, her birthday coincides with Doctors’ Day on July 1. To our surprise, she came to the hospital with a birthday cake, and requested me to accept her savings. She cut the cake and also handed over the piggy bank. This noble gesture makes the girl a role model for other children,” Dr Prasad said.
The seven-year-old girl had not spent the pocket money given by her parents and grandfather late Shridhar Bhandary, a noted
Yakshagana
artiste.
‘Moved by patients’ plight’“Saddened by the plight of poor patients suffering during the Covid-19 crisis, she decided to spend her savings for a good cause,” he said.
Disha said, “As I did not want a grand birthday celebration, I handed over my piggy bank to the doctor. The amount can be used for the treatment of poor patients.”
