: The National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal has restarted a ring ceremony, which is the campus’s
farewell
gesture to graduating students, after two years.
The ceremony, started by the first principal of the institute Appa Saheb Adke, had stopped because of the pandemic. This year’s ceremony was held on Friday.
Dr Suhas L Yathiraj, a Tokyo Paralympics Silver medallist and IAS officer, was the chief guest at the event.
Yathiraj is an alumnus of
NITK
, 2004, computer science and engineering batch.
He is now the district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar,
Uttar Pradesh.
“I am back in NITK after 18 years. NITK made me a man ready to face all the challenges in the world. There had been a lot of changes on the campus, but many things have remained the same like the energy and enthusiasm,” Yathiraj said.
Udaykumar R Yaragatti, the director in charge of NITK, said the ceremony was one of the most awaited events for final-year students about to leave the campus and kickstart their careers. The intention is to form a strong bond between a student and the institute.
