Expedite statue installation: Forum

Mangaluru: A forum of like-minded organisations of Surathkal called upon the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to accelerate the naming process for a road in Surathkal, in honour of Captain Pranjal MV. Also, the Rashtrabakta Nagarika Vedike Surathkal, urged the administration to expedite the installation of a statue dedicated to him at Surathkal Circle. Vedike president Sathyajith Surathkal told reporters on Tuesday, that despite numerous organisations submitting memorandums, there has been no positive response from the mayor or MLA regarding the proposal. Also, in the MCC’s proposal, a 750m stretch from Katla to Kana has been excluded, while the road from Katla cross to Ganeshpura-Katipalla, Krishnapura, Chokkabettu-Katla Cross has been included. The rationale behind this exclusion is unclear, and concerns are raised regarding the absence of progress in installing a statue at Surathkal Junction. He urged the mayor and MCC administration to address these issues immediately. Brig IN Rai said only a few Mangalureans have fought in wars or sacrificed their lives for the country. “Captain Pranjal’s sacrifice, giving up his today for our tomorrow, is an inspiration for youth,” he said. Rai said that civilians are eager to contribute funds for the construction of a statue in honour of Captain Pranjal, recognising the significance of preserving his legacy.Four Army personnel, including two captains, were killed during an encounter between security forces and terrorists at Bajimaal forests in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir in November. Capt Pranjal was born and brought up in Surathkal.
