Illegal liquor worth Rs 15L seized from Cong member’s house

Udupi: The excise department seized 272 cases of liquor worth Rs 15 lakh stored illegally in two houses at Abyanadka in Bola village in Karkala taluk on Thursday. Bindushree P, deputy commissioner of excise, said that 2,360.9 litres of various brand liquor transported illegally from Goa were stored in two houses. Raids were conducted at Avani Nilaya, belonging to Avinash Malli, a Congress leader, and Marimaru Guthu in the village simultaneously. Accused Avinash Malli from Abyanadka and Prashanth Suvarna, who is a resident of Adi Udupi, managed to flee from the spot, she said, adding that action is being taken to secure the accused.The raid was conducted in the early hours, under the leadership of Udupi district excise superintendent Shivaprasad, based on the directions of CH Balakrishna, joint commissioner of excise, Mangaluru division. Udupi sub-division deputy superintendent Gurumoorthy D Palekar and excise sub-inspector Raghavendra registered separate cases, she said."Such illegally stored liquor is supplied to functions like roce ceremonies, weddings, and musical programmes. However, major stocks are also supplied to Kerala in cars. We have no clear idea as to how they transport the liquor illegally from Goa. We suspect that they brought it by hiding it inside mushrooms and vegetables. An investigation is in progress," she added.Since Avinash Malli is a Congress leader and also served as the president of Bola gram panchayat, the BJP reacted immediately by sharing a video on X. The BJP Karnataka @BJP4Karnataka wrote: "Whiskey worth 70 lakh found at a Congress leader's house in Udupi! If this is just one Congress leader, how much are others hiding? The excise scam is way beyond 700 crores. How much more money does Karnataka need to fund for Maharashtra elections, Mr. Balak Buddi @RahulGandhi?
