Efforts on to start classes at Govt Vet College in Koila: Min
Mangaluru: Efforts are on to start classes at Govt Veterinary College, Koila, Kadaba taluk, from the next academic year, with preparations being made to meet required norms, said K Venkatesh, minister for animal husbandry and sericulture.After inspecting the college campus and the ongoing works on Tuesday, the minister told reporters that approval from the Veterinary Council of India is mandatory before the classers are started. He said arrangements are being made to ensure facilities required for first and second year classes are in place, and that classes will commence next academic year if approvals and preparations are completed on time.
The minister said Rs 136 crore has been spent on building construction, and an additional Rs 18 crore is released for other facilities. The college needs 25 lecturers, of which 13 posts are filled, and tenders are called for 32 other staff positions. The govt will meet remaining requirements in phases, he explained.The minister directed the officials to fix the issues highlighted by journalists, like leaky roof.On asked whether the college at Koila could face delays similar to veterinary college in Athani due to lack of basic facilities, the minister said steps would be taken to ensure arrangements are in place before the classes begin.The minister also visited a cow shelter under the animal husbandry department and reviewed facilities. He later visited the livestock breeding and training centre.To queries on possible changes involving the chief minister, the deputy chief minister and a cabinet reshuffle, Venkatesh said he was not in a position to comment.
